A bunch of massive changes happening; Tri and I went to DC to sort out Tri’s school visa (it was significantly easier than we thought it was going to be). Mrs. Chau came and went, Nhi came and went back to college, Tri went off to college and I’m getting ready to leave. We had a family party for Kally’s birthday, too. Mrs. Edi came to visit as well. Here’s photographic evidence for all these things.
I’ve had a lot of things to think about over this period. It has been a pleasure and an honor to spend time with the kiddos and my life is significantly better for it. I am immensely grateful for the enduring relationships in my life and, likewise, am filled with love and appreciation for those who’ve stuck around through this particularly trying time.
Tri’s graduation was fun and a little emotional for me. I think Tri’s speech was far and away the best given at the ceremony, and I’m not just saying that because he was my person there. He’s got a gift for public speaking. I’m sure he’ll use it for something interesting. Hopefully nothing to do with Bugattis (if that’s the plural of ‘Bugatti’).
Our trip to DC was fun. It was a bit of a bear to find the VN Embassy, but an older guy wearing a pattern shirt and smoking on the street tipped us off and Tri was sorted in significantly faster time than my years of living in Vietnam would have suggested. We spent a couple of days wandering around DC and found it a lovely city. I’d live there.
Home is home. It’s nice to have a place. Our family has been doing some emotional growth stuff which has been cool. I’m getting rid of a lot of my stuff and going through all my clothes to make something my dear friend Edi refers to as a ‘capsule wardrobe’. This minimizes clothes while maximizing versatility. I’m excited to have a small pile of wearables to take various places.
Looking forward to getting the hell out of the US. I’ve been stuck here for various reasons for years and am finally free to go do the things I’m good at and make money. Terrible, terrible freedom. This is a good place to mention that I’m very excited to see all my friends overseas- it’s been way too long.
